CUBES I
2018 – 2020

2018 – 2020
CUBES I examines individual yet archetypal human universes. Set within nine interconnected, cubic rooms, the series reflects on experiences of isolation, disconnect, and coexistence in contemporary life.
Each cube represents a self-contained microcosm, suggesting how people may feel enclosed within their own personal spaces – physically, emotionally, or socially – while remaining fundamentally connected to one another. The rooms are linked visually and metaphorically through water running through the walls, symbolizing an underlying interconnectedness that persists even when separation seems dominant.
The series was featured on PetaPixel (June 2020).
ABOUT THE MAKING:
Just like in the other two chapters – CUBES II and CUBES III – each room was constructed as a miniature set, carefully lit and photographed. The building process combines traditional crafting techniques with contemporary technologies such as 3D printing and laser cutting.
All models were photographed individually and later integrated into the final sceneries. The making-of videos below provide further insight into the construction and photographic process.
